A business card - a carrier of contact information about its owner - today has become an indispensable attribute of established business rituals, which are subject to meetings of business people. The size and design of business cards are also largely determined by established traditions, and are not subject to any industrial standards.

There are no strict restrictions on the size, material of manufacture, design method or information content of business cards - they can be almost any. However, there are several factors that significantly affect the choice of all of the listed parameters - these are traditions and ease of use established in a particular business community. From the point of view of practicality, one should proceed from the sizes of klyassers or business card holders in which many business people store received cards. In order for the business card to normally fit in the pocket allocated to it, business cards are made with a length of not more than 95 mm and a height of up to 55 mm. And the standards established in the local community of businessmen specify these sizes - for example, in Europe it is customary to use rectangles 85x55, in the USA - 95x55, and in Russia - 90x50. In addition, business cards are often made a little smaller. There are also some differences in the purpose of business cards, which may also affect the choice of their size and design. If your goal is to impress the “counterparty”, the business card should be of non-standard sizes. Sometimes they are made irregular or shaped, they use leather, wood, plastic or metal as the base material. A particularly non-standard approach to size and design is typical for business cards of people in creative professions, and for everyone else it is important to observe a sense of proportion - excessive originality can produce the opposite effect, even with excellent quality business cards. In addition to those given in the first paragraph, the size of 85.6 mm by 53.98 mm is often used - it is fixed in the international standard ISO 7810 ID-1 and coincides with the size of credit cards. Sometimes business cards are printed on cardboard in A8 format — this is 74 by 52 mm — or they are placed in 16 pieces on sheets of C4 format (we get a size of 81 by 57 mm).
