Business cases are specific problem situations that need to be analyzed and possible solutions found. A similar technique is used as a training tool in postgraduate education in management, as well as a tool for assessing professional suitability in business.

Like any task, a business case first needs to be read at least twice. The first time is to quickly run your eyes to understand the main idea, the second time you need to read the text more slowly, emphasizing the most important points and paying attention to the numbers.

Separate facts from opinions. The former appear to be indisputable, but the latter are merely subjective points of view of individuals. At the same time, opinions should never be neglected, since the essence of the problem may be hidden in them, perhaps the most difficult part of the case.

When solving a case, the manager must determine why this problem occurred at all, you need to correctly "make a diagnosis", that is, to identify the essence of the problem. At the diagnostic stage, maximum efforts should be made. If possible, examine the circumstances in which a problematic situation arose. Be careful: you can not use data not specified in the conditions of the task, if this is not provided. Having formulated the main problems and making a “diagnosis”, you can write them down so that you don’t deviate from the case conditions during the discussion.

Develop a wide range of options for resolving a problem situation, sometimes they say that at this stage you need to "generate a tree of alternatives." A serious business case, as a rule, contains more than one problem, and you need to generate several trees - one for each problem.

Rate options and choose the most suitable. At this stage, it should be assumed how each of the proposed methods of solving the problem will affect the development of events. If the conclusions made are unclear, there is no more or less firm confidence in the effectiveness of the analyzed option, it is better to discard it.

You may be asked to make an implementation plan for the proposed solutions. Therefore, it is worth foreseeing this nuance in advance and offering feasible recommendations. When presenting the findings, it is important to convince the audience of their correctness, so make your presentation as clear, direct and clear as possible.
