Before you start a business cooperation with an individual entrepreneur and sign a contract for a tangible sum of money, ask a potential counterparty or buyer for copies of documents confirming the right to engage in entrepreneurial activity. This is OGRNIP, TIN, license (if the activity is subject to licensing).

The abbreviation OGRNIP stands for "The main state registration number of an individual entrepreneur" and is indicated in the Certificate of State Registration of an Individual Issued by the Tax Authority. The document has a hologram, a protective drawing, a series and a number confirming the fact of making an entry in the Unified State Register of Individual Entrepreneurs. The Certificate has the seal of the tax authority and the signature of the authorized person.

For more complete information, please obtain an extract from the USRIP at the tax office. Access to the database can be free (partial data) or paid (full data), but this information is publicly available and contains a complete list of individual entrepreneurs registered in the Russian Federation. The information contained in the USRIP is the name, gender, citizenship, date and place of birth, data of an identity document and address of residence, date of state registration of an individual as an individual entrepreneur and other information.

If instead of an extract you were given a document about the lack of information, then this is an occasion to beware. This means that this individual entrepreneur does not exist.

To verify an individual entrepreneur, collect information from open sources. On the Internet you can find reviews, complaints or lack thereof, data on doing business.

You have checked all the data and are ready to sign an agreement with an individual entrepreneur. Before the entrepreneur puts his signature, check his passport. If the authentication was successful, you can sign the document.
