How to open your own theater

Today's Russian realities are such that anyone with a desire and a certain amount of money (about eight hundred thousand dollars) can open his own theater. This is a theory. But practice shows that in addition to this you need to have an adventurous character and have in mind an idea that would distinguish your theater from hundreds of others.

To begin with think over the staff of the theater and hire employees. A very small theater needs at least forty people, including the administration and actors.

In addition to the administration and actors, do not forget to hire make-up artists, light workers, a director, a dresser, etc. Remember that at first people can work part-time, this will allow you to avoid the substantial costs of paying benefits. It makes sense to invite specialists only to perform specific work (installation of the stage, scenery, make-up for actors).

Having your own room is expensive and not always profitable, so rent a stage in an existing educational theater, cultural center, educational institution, etc.

In the contract, determine that not only performances will take place in this room, but also rehearsals will take place.

Put a certain amount (about thirty percent of the starting capital) on advertising, since a new business will require promotion. Advertising can be very costly (television, newspapers, radio), or very budget, for a very modest budget, you can just stick up posters and ads.

A free performance may be useful for any category of spectators: low-income, senior citizens, and children. Remember that even for a very good performance, the occupancy of the hall of ninety percent is an excellent indicator.

It is much cheaper to invest in an enterprise. In this performance, lightweight scenery, a small number of actors (five to six) are involved. As a rule, there is only one star among them. With a good combination of circumstances, an entrepreneur pays off in a few months.

Do not overstate the price of tickets, at first spectators should be attracted by their democratic nature.
