The purpose is called the purpose or meaning of the action taken, the desired result. The success of its achievement depends on whether the goal is correctly formulated. The management technique developed in 1965 for assessing SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) by five criteria, which makes it very simple and effective to understand how smart an individual goal or task is, is widely used.

Specificity. The goal should be formulated, accurate, unambiguous and equally clear to everyone. For example, increase the net profit of the organization.

Measurability. The goal should be measurable qualitative and (or) quantitative indicators. This criterion will help to assess the degree of achievement of the goal. For example, to increase the organization’s net profit by 25% compared to last year.

Reachability. The goal must be achievable. For example, to increase the organization’s net profit by 25% compared to the previous year by reducing the cost of production. It is pointless to set goals that cannot be achieved.

Significance. The goal should be significant (important), i.e. its achievement can significantly change the state of affairs.

Limited time. The goal should be limited in time by a certain period. Depending on the complexity of the goal, the time to achieve it can be, for example, a day, a month or a year. Goals that are unlimited in time are unlikely to be achieved.
