How to open a pig farm

Despite the fact that the profitability of the finished pig farm is high enough, in order to establish production, it will take a lot of time and investment. Where to start the work of this agricultural enterprise?

Register your farm with your local tax authority. This simple procedure will take you no more than 5 days. Make a business plan for the farm, taking into account the specifics of your region (climate, infrastructure, sales markets, and even religion of the population).

Select a site for the construction of a pigsty and a subsidiary farm. It is advisable that your future pig farm be located near agricultural processing enterprises - this will help you save on compound feeds. Rent a plot or an abandoned farm. Be sure to rent a field for sowing feed crops.

Obtain a certificate of the sanitary condition of the area at your local veterinary department. Contact the environmental service as well. Register and coordinate waste management issues (biogas plant, field pick-up, etc.).

Build a pig farm or re-equip and repair the old one. If you rent a farm, be sure to check the condition of ventilation, feeders and drinking bowls. If possible, mechanize future production to the maximum so that there are no problems with timely feeding or waste disposal.

Buy breeding boars, sows and piglets, but from different producers, to exclude possible undesirable consequences for the offspring caused by family mating. When choosing a livestock, be sure to consult with experts or immediately hire specialists who will work with you in the future (livestock specialist, veterinarian).

Buy quality feed. Conclude agreements with processing plants in your area on the use of waste from their production (for example, whey) for feeding pigs. Sow the field with forage crops (Jerusalem artichoke, amaranth, etc., based on the climatic conditions of your region).

Hire staff. One of the conditions for employment at an enterprise such as a pig farm should be a certificate from a narcologist about the absence of alcohol dependence. This is a difficult but necessary condition.

Set up sales. Conclude agreements with processing enterprises, with meat procurers. You can trade pork yourself, but for this you will need to equip refrigerators and, if possible, open your own processing plant.
