The Astrakhan Canning Company, the largest processor of fruits, vegetables, and other food products in the region, has been carrying out a program to modernize its own facilities since 2009 in order to increase the acceptance of raw materials.

The technical re-equipment campaign has already yielded its first fruits - the proposed range of canned goods has increased and, accordingly, their output under the brands of the Astrakhan Canning Company. Thus, the company plans to occupy currently an empty niche in the Russian market, which remained after the Russian authorities introduced a ban on food imports from a number of countries.

In November 2014, Sergey Krzhanovsky, Minister of Industry, Transport and Natural Resources of the Astrakhan Region, visited the production facilities of the Astrakhan Canning Company, who examined and assessed the capabilities of the enterprise and their potential. In turn, Vladimir Aksenov, the head of the company, noted the continued participation of regional and federal authorities in the fate of the enterprise he represents.

So, the government of the Astrakhan region has developed and continues to implement effective mechanisms to stimulate the processing industry in the region. In 2014, a modernly equipped workshop specializing in the production of vegetable freezing (about 100 thousand tons of possible acceptance of raw materials in just one day) was commissioned as part of the Astrakhan Canning Company, as well as a refrigeration room with a storage capacity of three thousand tons of frozen products.

But the company did not stop there: Astrakhan Canning Company purchased equipment for equipping a pepper processing workshop and chopping various vegetables with a blanching function. Thus, the company has already expanded the range of manufactured pickles and pickles.

"My farm is still small. I am supplying fresh fruits and vegetables to the market, there are already not enough volumes for processing. But I very much hope to increase yields by 2020 and rely very much on government support. After that, it’s possible I’ll start cooperating and with large processors such as the Astrakhan Canning Company, "said Ivan Mikhailov, an Astrakhan private farmer.
